Well. I left LA without any rushing or issues. Leaving Ridgecrest on Sunday was a bit different. I returned from golden after successfully defending my thesis (Yay!) on saturday night around 11pm. Sunday morning was full of hanging out with Josie and doing laundry. I couldn't find the backpack I wanted to take, so after tearing apart every box and container that it could be in, I realized it was at work. So I picked that up, as well as some beer, and headed to Steven's for the tail end of his Oktoberfest party.
Ran some errands the next morning and headed to Burbank with plenty of time to spare. My journey was about to start!! I got to sleep most of the flight, and didn't have much of a layover in DFW before boarding for London. After a pretty nice flight, I'm here in Heathrow waiting for my connection to Prague! Cam was gratious enough to book me a taxi, already prepared to take me right to her later this evening. So excited! It's been almost two months and it will be so refreshing to finally get to just hang out with her again.
I'll put up pictures (from my new camera!) and more once I get settled. After all this traveling, we are actually headed to Vienna on Thursday and Venice on Friday (happy birthday Cam!) so I should have lots to share coming up.
As of now I've only had about three hours of sleep in thenpast 24 hours..so appologies if things seem a bit, dry.
Hope to be more cheerful next time!
Something about Airplanes
Travel. Daily Thoughts. Updates. The typical blag, with probably a little too much about the desert. However, with all the upcoming events, I figured it was time to jump on-board and share my views of the world.

Ok...so I'm bad at this.
Here it is. Over a week after I write my first post and I have been to San Antonio for a week, finished moving into my new place in Ridgecrest (almost) and have arrived in golden. But I got this little app for my phone so it should be easier.
So I went to San Antonio for a geophysical conference. I met with a bunch of people, got in touch with a lot of companies that can potentially do work for the Navy, and saw the Alamo.
(Apparently I can't be cool and add photos with captions. Hmm. Well...-see photo of Alamo.)
Other than that, did enough drinking and catching up with friends and contacts to last a month. Such is SEG. I flew back to Ridgecrest on Friday morning (6 am flight) and spent the afternoon doing work stuff and then napping. ( I figured out that I had been awake since 1am that morning due to time change). That night through Sunday was cleaning and finishing my move out of my old place.
This afternoon I hopped on a plane to Denver. Now staying at the Dove Inn in Golden, a little bed and breakfast place that is pretty nice. Oh! See crazy picture of airplane prop! And see pictures of San Andreas Fault. We fly right over it from Inyokern to LAX! So cool! Those first ones (and the last one) I took on Friday, looking east, the second to last one is looking west from somewhere over the Mojave.
Ok. So this week I work on my defense presentation. It's Friday. At 3 pm. I'm scared and excited. I have a lot of work and studying to do, so I'm going to get some sleep and get going early tomorrow.
Maybe after a quick jog up clear creek. It's starting to be fall in Colorado. I'll send pictures mom!
ONE WEEK TILL PRAGUE AND CAM!!!!!!

annnnd offffff!!!
Yeup. The journey is about to start. Its 12:35 AM, and I have a 5 am departure from Inyokern. Classic Shoffnerism. I blame it on the moving, though. I had two days to move into my new place, which I almost accomplished. I have a little bit next weekend to finish with cleaning and etc.
So tomorrow (or 3 hours from now) I get going from Inyokern to LAX to San Antonio for SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists). Sunday night is the Ice breaker, where I will tour the conference floor and visit with all the industry people and drink their free beer or wine. Its usually a lot of fun, and the kids that you know from the other geophysical schools are usually around to hang out with too. Monday morning is the opening ceremonies and the afternoon is the start of the sessions. The first afternoon is the Mining and Geothermal session, which I am pretty excited to goto and see what they have going on. From there... I need to write down my schedule, because there are a lot of talks that I want to attend.
Anyway. I really need to get to sleep.
OH YEAH!
The reason I have this blog is to follow my travels over the next month or so. San Antonio is the first week, then off to Denver for the second week to defend my Master's, then off to Prague for three(ish) weeks to go visit Cam for her birthday and for my first real vacation since I started my college career in Fall 2004. Seven years. Whooohoo! Then I come back and head down to San Diego for another conference. And then I will probably be back to Denver to present some work for another conference. Aaannnddd THhhheeennnnn, I get to start field work! Yay!
Ok, bed time.
Until next time folks!
